Be a crab in the bucket or just walk away...

One bright morning, a man went walking along the beach and there he saw a fisherman fishing with a bait bucket beside him. As he drew closer, he saw that the bait bucket had no lid and there were live crabs inside. “Why don't you cover your bait bucket so the crabs won't escape?” he asked. The fisherman replied, "I don't need to put a lid. If there was only one crab in the bucket it would surely crawl out very quickly. Things are different when there are many crabs in the bucket, because, if one tries to crawl up the side, the others will grab hold of it and pull it back down so that it will share the same fate as the rest of them."

This also points towards very typical human behaviour which we see around us all the time. If someone tries to do something different, chalk out a different path for themselves, or dream big, other people especially those who are unable to manage themselves, will try to drag that person down to the bottom with full force. That person is blamed, ignored, put down, targeted for carving out a unique place, and ridiculed for being what he/she is!

Such behaviours are very demotivating and act as road blocks for any community, group, profession or individual. As such, a person who is on a journey towards self growth and personal enhancement has so many internal fears, apprehensions and detriments. Dejection and pessimism from the environment doesn't help. Now it's you who has to decide how you're going to take that criticism, take it lying down or stand up against it and take it as a challenge.

Sometimes, such interactions do bring down our self esteem and we are doubtful about our capabilities, or we keep waiting to achieve perfection, as we are apprehensive of failure. Don't wait to be perfect, just shoot ahead, correction will happen with time. Don't let people's words and opinions stop you from achieving your dreams.

It's your choice to either "climb the crab bucket", or let your self be dragged down, and let them stop you from changing the world. If you believe in yourself and feel that God has blessed you with some great gifts and talents, go ahead with a leap of faith and turn your dreams into reality. Bring that courage into you which will metamorphose you into a tenacious creature. It may not be easy and you may not succeed as much as you want, but you will not share the same fate as those who never try.

Find your mettle and just walk away...

Boys Locker Room - A Sneak peak into Mindset of Present - day Youth - Part 2

Adults - How to be better human beings? The psyche behind ‘boys Locker Room’ is not limited to social media or a specific age group. It is a deep-rooted systemic issue found pervasively in all strata of society. There are very few safe spaces where women are respected and treated fairly. Be it home or work space, they are constantly at risk of exploitation, abuse and victimization. Every incident puts more and more embargo on women while leaving the perpetrators to walk away freely. Parents do try to give the best of upbringing and values to their progeny. But, as mentioned earlier, kids learn from their surroundings, and pick up subtle behaviour from immediate family members. When ‘gender role consistent’ behaviours have been part of upbringing, the thought process and reactions are stereotypical, and breaking away from it is not easy. While talking about adults, we’ve to learn to mention every context in gender neutrality. Aim of this narrative is not to ridic...

Perilous state of Paraphilics

Food For Thought

Gone are the days when women used to remain at home, while being a support system and acting as a buffer for the whole family. Now, they are also out there fighting it out everyday for professional survival, respect and equal opportunities. For them there is no respite at the domestic front also, as most of the Indian males are not moulded to share household chores or looking after the kids which again shifts the onus to the women of the family. Women these days, go out to work not only for the money, but for financial independence which brings in the very essence of being self sufficient, leading to better quality of life, boosts self esteem, and generates self - confidence to deal with various oddities of life. Although, it does seem great on the surface, but the amount of stress, discrimination and abuse the fairer sex faces, is not fair. I know so many women who don't have mental health issues in the traditional sense but are so burdened by life's stresses, ...
