Curious case of Army kids...

Recently in a group chat, there evolved a curious query about Army kids and how they inadvertently get soaked in the spirit of regimentation, feelings of patriotism , bonhomie and assimilate so much that it becomes a way of life for them. Although, it's a default setting for them, still, they totally get accustomed to it and adapt naturally.   Another question that cropped up was that if they are so attuned to it, and serving the army is not a profession but a way of life, why it doesn't become their obvious career choice ? Why most of them land up in corporate jobs? As the question itself is multifaceted, answer, I think, can be addressed by applying multi-pronged approach to the problem. One aspect to be discussed about is the main constituent ie Fauji kids.As in our society,we have different social strata and economic strata, in army also exist three different economic strata. The NCOs, the JCOs and the officers. Their pay-bands and authorizations dictate their e...

Why Defame Armed Forces?

Refer to the blog published in Canary Trap Published on 27/7/ 2012, I would like to point out certain things about the writing.  First of all Mr Shailesh Ranade is a guest blogger in the Canary trap, which claimes to offer exclusive, investigative and well-researched special news content relating to politics, corruption, security & strategic affairs, intelligence, and terrorism. The author  has always projected extreme views about armed forces in his writings which amounts to sensationalizing the facts. Unfortunately sensationalism sells and he has been getting lots of hits and cheap publicity. And what does the Armed forces get by such articles? Scorn, contempt and disdain from the civilian population as well as from some disgruntled officers. We all are aware of the financial conditions of the faujis, may it be an OR or an Officer, what gives strength to them in financial, physical, psychological  hardships is the fact that he is respected more than his civil...

Give me my 'Azadi'

Azadi  or freedom is everybody's birth right. Every human being is born free and wants the freedom of choosing his way of life. Basically there are four sources of rights and moral values which stem from : Our religion, our constitution/ laws, our society where we live and Our personal values, which we decide for ourselves. These moral values and rights define our freedom in real sense. The most important factor out of these four is our personal values and the rights which we want for ourselves. With the changing time, the sphere and interpretation of one's rights and duties also keeps changing. With the education, the right exposure and knowledge, progressive viewpoints automatically take over and redefine our freedom. Various discussions and article have put forth a wide spectrum of ideas and viewpoints about how much freedom should be allowed as per the religious and societal norms. But, the basic points remains that What is Azadi ? Slogan of “AZADI” has been...

Is this Kashmiriat?

Is this Kashmiriat? The recent controversy about banning the all girls music band has brought us into center of the another discussion about secularism and “Kashmiriat” once again. Kashmir has a unique and distinct cultural heritage which is multifaceted, multicolored and vibrant like its demography. For centuries Kashmir has had a history of invasions by outside forces to subjugate people by perpetual use of force and apart from persecution and plunder, the worst hit could have been the culture of this paradise on earth. But, the valley has embraced one and all with large heart and open arms ad o pting their art, customs an...

Emotions nee' logic

Universe is so dynamic and versatile that sometimes a whole life is not enough to perceive it. we are just a freckle of dust in this whole dynamism .Our dreams, our  perceptions and jurisdictions are limited to a small patch of soil which gets wet and dry with our emotions from time to time. When winds of time and circumstances blow, we get carried away from one patch to another not knowing what to do.But ultimately when we touch the next unknown patch of our life, we start binding ourselves to that patch with emotions, in spite of knowing that the emotions are not enough to bind us to that patch again. That is the time our thought process steps in and we logically convince ourselves that this is the best way to deal with the present situation and as and when the next situation arises, it will be dealt with. And it goes on.... Scientifically and physiologically emotions and logic  arise from two different parts of the brain. It is an established fact that every person has a di...
